Artist's Statement After many years as an illustrator, working almost exclusively from photographic reference in my studio, I became interested in painting outdoors. Painting from nature has given my pictures a fresh quality, a quality I’ve long admired in the paintings of John Carlson, Emile Gruppe’, Edward Seago, and John Stobart. I am never happier than when I’m painting from nature.
